Today, we would like to introduce the popular ASCII Club article "Fujitsu" LIFEBOOK CH90 "Actual Machine Review = Finally Tiger Lake's GPU Capability Revealed !!".

Fujitsu Client Computing announced the mobile notebook PC "LIFEBOOK CH90 / E3" equipped with a 13.3-inch organic EL display on October 19, and will start selling on December 10. The direct sales price is 192,280 yen (tax included).

Since it is a fall / winter 2020 model, it is equipped with Tozen Tiger Lake, but the surprise point of this product is that it has an "HDMI input terminal".

If you connect a game console, you can display super beautiful game graphics on the organic EL display. The CH90 / E3 is already a "buy!" By itself, but the careful construction is also a good impression. That's why I borrowed the actual machine before the release from the company, so let's check the hardware making, display image quality, performance, etc. in detail.

The one I borrowed this time is an evaluation machine before it was released. Please note that the appearance and specifications may differ from those of mass-produced products.

The HDMI terminal of CH90 / E3 supports both input and output. If you connect a game console, you can enjoy beautiful graphics on the organic EL display. Of course, PlayStation 5 is OK!

The interface has evolved significantly with the adoption of Tiger Lake

CH90 / E3 adopts "Windows 10 Home" as the OS and "Core i5-1135G7" (4 cores 8 threads, maximum 4.20GHz) of the 11th generation (Tiger Lake) as the CPU.In addition, the office application "Microsoft Office Home & Business 2019" is attached as standard.

Equipped with 8GB of memory and 512GB of storage (PCIe connection SSD). It is said that the Tiger Lake generation processor has 20% CPU performance, double iGPU performance, and five times AI performance compared to the previous generation. Even with the Core i5, we can expect great expectations for 3D graphics performance.

However, 8GB memory is a little disappointing. I wanted it to be equipped with 16GB memory because it was installed onboard and could not be replaced.

The display is equipped with a 13.3-inch wide full HD organic EL (1920 x 1080 dots, 60Hz). Although the figures have not been released, high brightness, high color purity, wide viewing angle, and high-speed response are touted.

Interfaces are Thunderbolt 4 (USB 4 Gen3 Type-C, USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort Alt Mode compatible) x 2, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (with power off USB charging function) x 1, HDMI input / output terminal x 1, A wide variety of 3.5mm headset terminals x 1 are available. Communication function supports Wi-Fi 6 (11ax) and Bluetooth 5.0. While the Thunderbolt 4 terminals are arranged on the left and right, the USB Type-A, which is convenient when inserting the mouse dongle, is prepared on the right side, so it is a hardware configuration with no gaps.

As for the security function, a face recognition camera compatible with Windows Hello is built in the upper part of the display. Infrared cameras may not respond in direct sunlight, so I personally prefer a fingerprint sensor that works reliably, but in terms of convenience, a facial recognition camera is better.

The main body size is 307 x 207 x 15.8 mm, and the weight is about 1.11 kg. Aluminum is used for the A cover (top surface), plastic is used for the B cover (display bezel), aluminum is used for the C cover (palm rest), and magnesium is used for the D cover (bottom surface), achieving both lightness and rigidity.

The battery has a built-in 53Wh lithium ion, and the continuous driving time is about 13.4 hours (JEITA 2.0), and the charging time is about 2 hours. Check out the Benchmark chapter to see how long the battery actually lasts while it's equipped with an OLED display.

The top of the main body. CH90 / E3 is available in two colors, khaki and dark silver.

The bottom of the main body.A bar-type rubber foot is attached near the exhaust port to prevent hot air from the exhaust port behind the main body from entering the inside again.

At the top of the OLED display, a 920,000-pixel Web camera, a Windows Hello-compatible face recognition camera, and four array microphones are built-in.

The keyboard is Japanese, but it has a simple design with no hiragana engraved on it. Key pitch is about 19mm

Keystroke is about 1.7mm

The rental machine only came with an AC adapter and power cable, but of course the product comes with a manual and warranty card.

The cord length of the AC adapter is actually measured 178 cm, and the length of the power cable is actually measured 100 cm.

The model number of the AC adapter is "ADLX65YSCXC2F". Specifications are input 100-240V-1.8A, output 20V / 3.25A, 15V / 3A, 9V / 3A, 5V / 3A, capacity is 65W

The actual weight of the main body is 1107.5g

The total weight of the AC adapter and power cable is actually measured 246.9g

DCI-P3 coverage rate of 99.9% and organic EL display suitable for video viewing

The image quality of the organic EL display is high. Although detailed specifications such as color gamut have not been announced, the results were measured with a color calibration device and found that the sRGB coverage rate was 100%, the AdobeRGB coverage rate was 94.5%, and the DCI-P3 coverage rate was 99.9%. A high DCI-P3 coverage means that the display is suitable for viewing images.

Naturally, the viewing angle is also wide. Saturation and gradation are maintained even from the side, so you can see what is displayed. If you often use it in coworking spaces, you may want to put a privacy filter on it.

DCI-P3 coverage measured with the color calibration device "i1 Display Pro" and the chromaticity diagram creation software "ColorAC" is 99.9%.

Fine gradation and jet-black expression are unique to OLED displays.

Almost the same visibility is maintained even from a deeper angle. The image quality is high, but if you have many opportunities to use it outdoors, privacy measures are necessary.

The adoption of the Thunderbolt 4 (USB 4 Gen3 Type-C, USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort Alt Mode compatible) terminal is also an appealing point of CH90 / E3. Video can be output to two 4K displays, and the cable length can be up to 2m. In addition, the data transfer speed of PCI Express is 32 Gbps, which is twice the conventional speed. The degree of freedom of connection with peripheral devices and performance are greatly improved.

Since it supports USB Power Delivery and DisplayPort Alt Mode, you can output video and supply power with a single cable.

Maximum data transmission speed is 40 Gbps, which is the same as Thunderbolt 3

Now, there are two complaints about CH90 / E3. The first is that it doesn't have a keyboard backlight. In a house or office, you can see the key tops by increasing the brightness of the display, but you may want to decrease the brightness in an airplane with the lights turned off. In such a case, I would like the keyboard backlight to be built in to ensure the visibility of the key tops.

Another dissatisfaction is the image quality of the webcam. It has reached the average level of mobile notebook PCs and does not interfere with video conferences, but I think it has not reached the resolution and image quality that can be demonstrated by holding a product in hand, for example. Of course, it's not limited to CH90 / E3, but it's time to expect the same image quality as the in-camera of a smartphone for the built-in webcam of a notebook PC.

If you set the brightness of the display to about 40%, you can read the characters on the key top without any inconvenience even without a backlight.

The effective pixel count of the CH90 / E3 webcam is approximately 920,000 pixels.

Compared to recent smartphone in-cameras, the resolution and color development are inferior.

Demonstrate up to 2.97 times the GPU performance of the 10th generation Core i7 equipped machine
